Murals Talk Foundation |
|
Murals Talk is a program designed to raise awareness of global peers facing similar life hurdles. The program seeks to inspire youth and provoke change in their approach to challenges they face due to circumstances outside of their control. We seek to empower children by giving them a platform to express their goals and dreams, identify the hurdles they face, discuss ways they can attack them head on and overcome those obstacles, and identify persons of support they can trust and rely on to help them achieve success.
We try to present real solutions that are within THEIR CONTROL. By doing so, they can take ownership in their actions, have a better understanding of how their actions produce both positive and sometimes negative outcomes, and dare to hope for a departure from their current position in life (if undesirable).
The program is not solely reserved for children in a depressed economic, emotional, or physical state, however. The program can also help children of greater privilege recognize a need to maintain an ideal circumstance for their future and helps generate a level of empathy for peers less fortunate.
Founded by muralist and arts executive Pamela Snyder Etters and driven by a passion for the arts and their power to positively transform individuals and/or communities. To date projects have been funded by grass roots fundraising efforts, and the faith of friends and family in the mission of Murals Talk and the artists executing said mission. As Murals Talk looks to grow, operations will largely depend on donations and grants from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Money realized will be fully channeled into the execution of the Murals Talk Mission.

MISSION STATEMENT
Murals Talk is a community & youth driven initiative using mural construction to bridge cultural, economic and social gaps.
Our mission is to help children develop a better understanding of the hurdles many of their peers’ face in our society and how they can effect a positive change in the lives of those around them every day. Our secondary mission is to help those facing social, economic or cultural suppression identify the hurdles they face, verbally commit to future goals (establishing personal accountability) and talk about ways they can overcome and succeed. Mural Construction is used to reinforce these ideals.
VISION
Our Vision at Murals Talk is to provide a critical, creative building block for impressionable youth enabling them to take control of their future and positively shape the culture of their communities. Our nonprofit aims at contributing significantly to the establishment of positive self-image, self-worth, and confidence in one’s ability to harness talents and create a progressive and successful future leading to safer and stronger communities both domestically and abroad.

Murals Talk Artists
Pamela Snyder Etters is the Founder and Lead Artist with Murals Talk. She obtained her bachelor's degree in Fine Arts (Drawing and Painting) from Penn State University in 2003. Making her mark in the Pennsylvania mural scene since 2005, Snyder Etters has earned a number of accolades for her mural work.
Snyder Etters began creating murals in 2005 in her home town of Altoona, PA. In 2008 she began working on a series of murals in Milton, PA before putting her brushes on a hiatus to start a family. While working in Milton, Etters began working more with community youth, involving them in her mural projects and the production of a fun children's history book, The ABC's of Milton. Her time working with the children led to a deeper understanding of the positive effects art has on youth and was the beginning of the concept for the Murals Talk Program.
Snyder Etters is also currently the full time Executive Director of the 91 year old Altoona Symphony Orchestra in Altoona, PA and the Head Women's Soccer Coach of the Penn State Altoona Women's Soccer Program. Snyder Etters is a native of Altoona and currently resides there with her husband Travis and their two daughters Emma and Tobin.
