In 2017 the United States had just elected a new president and the country was quite divided in their decision. The topic of the day was focused on the politics of our country and helping the students better understand the conflictions. We again put our focus on expressing that while people had different (sometimes extremely different) political affiliations and opinions, there was one thing everyone has always agrees on. A significant consideration in their decision making comes down to their root desire to make the world the best place it can be for future generations. No matter what 'side' you may be on, children, and their well-being, will always bring people together in search of common good and common ground. The mural background was made of ripped newspapers with the presidential election headlines decoupaged onto the canvas. A child painted in purple hue is peering upwards to the stars. Purple was selected as it symbolized unity between the 'red side' and the 'blue side'. The American Flag was washed over the top and student created self-portraits in the stars and on the surface to represent what binds us together.
